BIOPOLIS selected a probiotic strain that hampers H. pylori growth in vitro and identified the nature of the metabolites responsible for this inhibitory activity.   Global warming is largely associated to the presence of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This, along with the reached peak oil and the fast increasing demand in energy, places our societies in front of the urge of finding sustainable solutions for the generation of energy and chemical feedstocks. It was proposed in the 1990s that methanol could efficiently replace fossil fuels as a means to store, distribute and supply energy. Methanol can serve as a raw material for the preparation of chemical feedstocks and is also a good fuel itself; so is dimethylether. Methanol is currently being produced from synthesis gas, directly obtained from gas or biomass.
  
  A much more sustainable approach to methanol synthesis consists in capturing carbon dioxide from atmosphere or from burning plants and treat it with hydrogen to form methanol, thereby closing the carbon cycle. Such processes have been reported and they most commonly suffer from low selectivity to methanol and/or conversion of carbon dioxide to methanol, therefore requiring sofisticated process plants with high associated operating costs.
  
  The developed process allows for the preparation of methanol and DME from carbon dioxide in high yields using well-known catalysts.
  
  The Institution is searching for industrial partners to further develop these technologies from the laboratory scale to the commercial plant, jointly or independently.

  Mechanic wave propagation through a liquid depends on its characteristics. These can be altered by physic micro-changes caused by the presence of microorganisms. These little alterations on normal characteristics of milk cause that the ultrasonic wave takes more or less time to recover the way between the emitter and the receiver (velocity) and besides modify the absorption that “milk” environment exerts on ultrasonic waves, modifying the amplitude of wave peaks (absorption).
  
  The object of this patent is a new non-invasive method of broad spectrum microbiological detection and analysis based on the propagation of elastic waves through the milk or a dairy product derivative.
  
  The advantages of this system are:
  
  - NON- INVASIVE: intact package, without the introduction of electrodes or reagents.
  
  - REAL TIME DETECTION: both sample incubation and analysis are done at the same time, allowing the detection of microbial growth when it happens.
  
  - RISK MINIMIZATION: with a previous pre-incubation (1 hour), ULS analysis is constant and the detection takes between 9 and 24 hours.

  The present invention relates to a modified polyaryletherketone polymer (PAEK), e.g. PEEK, with chemically modified surfaces suitable for "click" reactions, and to a process to obtain it.

  This is a design that allows to construct a continuous adjusting open end wrench. The device is helpful in situations where a socket wrench or a closed end wrench can not be used. This is generally the case for nuts that must be moved along bolts with no access to the bolt ends.

  It is a well known fact that the smallest angle an open end wrench needs to allow moving a bolt is 30 degrees. The wrench is positioned over the nut, it is rotated 30 degrees, the wrench has to be removed and rotated over its own axis 180º and placed again over the nut to allow a further 30º movement. This is a time consuming procedure.
  
  Fixed and adjustable ratcheting open end wrenches are available in the market. These tools do not have to be removed and rotated 180º over its own axis. Nevertheless they have to be moved back and forth and when the nut needs a long run over the bolt, the procedure is time consuming.
  
  The tool presented here has the main advantage that can be motorized, connected to an air compressed ratchet or a manual ratchet. The rotation direction can be changed externally without removing the tool. The tool is not adjustable. It has the same width as an adjustable wrench for the bigger nut it can handle. Smaller nuts can be handled by placing an add on piece.
  A metal clip is introduced to keep the nut centered with the rotation axis. Once the user gets accustomed with the tool, the clip is not longer necessary. The internal mechanism has a pending european patent and can be transferred. Read more

  To date, most IDSs have approached ID from a classification standpoint. MOVICAB-IDS proposes visualisation techniques for ID and network monitoring. It is worth emphasizing that the proposal entails the visualisation of network traffic data for detecting intrusions (that is, visualisation for ID) and not the visualisation of IDS alerts or logs (that is visualisation of ID) as others have done.
  
  Visualisation tools can contribute to the security tasks in the following way:
  
  •Visualisation tools may be understood intuitively (even for inexperienced staff) and require reduced configuration time.
  
  •Providing an intuitive visualisation of network traffic lets inexperienced security staff know how normal traffic behaves, which is a key issue in ID. The monitoring task (usually the least dependent on the expertise of the analysts) can be then assigned to less experienced security staff. Thus, workloads will be reduced for senior staff while expertise will be fostered in less-experienced employees.
  
  •Visualizations that depict patterns in massive amounts of data, and methods for interacting with those visualizations can help analysts prepare for unforeseen events".
  
  •They can work in unison with some other tools for ID in a complementary way.
